Humming Birds are an interest of a great many people with the variety of the little bundles of energy. In my home area of Arizona these may be found.
Common Hummingbirds in Arizona
Anna’s Hummingbird – Year-round, rose-pink head (males).
Black-chinned Hummingbird – Summer resident; black throat with purple base.
Broad-tailed Hummingbird – Summer in higher elevations; metallic wing trill.
Broad-billed Hummingbird – Southeast AZ; green with red bill.
Costa’s Hummingbird – Desert areas; purple crown and throat (males).
Less Common or Regional Species
Rivoli’s Hummingbird – Mountain canyons in SE AZ; large and dark with iridescent colors.
Lucifer Hummingbird – Rare; curved bill, magenta throat (males).
Violet-crowned Hummingbird – Rare; white chest, violet crown, red bill.
Migrants Through the State
Rufous Hummingbird – Orange males, very aggressive; spring/fall migrant.
Calliope Hummingbird – Tiny, with streaked magenta throat (males); migrates through.
